Re: slicer and freecad. by mrdic » Mon Sep 18, 2017 11:45 pm. Slicing is a post-process to design and modelling. 3D printers build layers of material, which are the slices. Slicers slice the model, designed in CAD and exported as .stl, into those layers, at the thickness you specify for your printer, which is dependent on the nozzle diameter ...

by arcol » Sun May 24, 2015 1:48 pm. I had this crazy idea lately, design a family house completely in FreeCAD. It would generate a tremendous helpful resource for tutorials and howtos. I'm ina fortunate position to know a guy, who recently made several plans forhis future family house. There were about 15-20 different design, he ended up ...

Whereas in FreeCAD the Draft WB has 2d objects in a 3d environment. So you can simulate a 2d CAD application by giving all of your 2d Draft objects the same (presumably 0) z value (you can set any plane as a working plane in FreeCAD). However all objects do have 3d placement and properties. The advanced FreeCAD Draft WB tools, like Draft Clone ...

Thread Maker v4.1. by KurtF » Sun Mar 13, 2022 12:18 am. This is a simple yet robust ISO and NPT thread body generator. Just enter the desired thread pitch, diameter (links to ISO and NPT tables provided), length and (if needed) radial clearance; then ThreadMaker will generate PD Bodies of mating external/internal threads.

True CAD software either use CSG (outdated) or boundary representation (B-Rep). All modern CAD software use B-Rep, and so does FreeCAD. OpenSCAD is popular in the 3D printing community, but it's a tool for programming-minded people - which I'm not. It can only export to .CSG (an open but non-standard file format) and .STL.

A point cloud is a set of data points in space. The points represent a 3D shape or object. Each point has its set of X, Y and Z coordinates. Point clouds are generally produced by 3D scanners or by photogrammetry software, which measure many points on the external surfaces of objects around them. As the output of 3D scanning processes, point ...

To help in the possibility of an open source project I’ve also included the FreeCAD files that generated all the 3D print and G code files. The Version of FreeCAD that made the Control Box files: OS: Ubuntu 16.04.6 LTS. Word size of OS: 64-bit. Word size of FreeCAD: 64-bit. Version: 0.18.16093 (Git)

It's possible, but it might not be very useful. 3D CAD is quite different from 2D CAD. If you have a dimensioned blueprint of the part it might be faster to model it from scratch using the blueprint as reference. It all depends on the complexity of the part. 3 posts • Page 1 of 1.

Yes, FreeCAD is intuitive for someone with prior CAD experience. However, for someone with experience even with 3D modeling software such as Maya, Blender, Google Sketchup, Second Life, etc., FreeCAD Draft workbench is entirely incomprehensible unless one has experience in another CAD program or are shown exactly what to do.
